From The Desk Of R’ Shaya Levin

It is now 2 weeks before Pesach and we are rapidly approaching Yisroel and Elisheva’s first Yahrtzeit on Yud Tes Nisan the third day of Chal Hamoed. Needless to say, it has been a very painful and difficult year for all of us who miss both of them so very much. We were just at the hakomas matzeiva for Elisheva this past Sunday, March 31st and I had the opportunity to express some of my feelings at her kever. I recalled how on the 5th day of their engagement on Friday Erev Pesach she called to wish us a Good Yomtov and she spent a few minutes talking to me. She said, “Totty, thank you so much for giving me Yisroel.” It was a beautiful sentiment to convey and I was deeply touched by her articulating it so directly to me. (Little could I imagine at that time that just 5 days later they would both be taken so suddenly from us.) This memory will stay with me forever. I will also always remember all of her attributes that made her so very special to all of us who were privileged to know her – her gutskeit, finekeit and her upholding her kedushas bas Yisroel both in her workplace and everywhere she went. May she continue to rise higher and higher in Gan Eden and may we all strive to emulate all of her middos tovos and thereby bring zchusim to her neshama.

Before the Yamim Noraim I reached out to all of the Rabbonim and asked them a special favor. As they prepare their drashos for the Yemei Hadin and offer various suggestions to the tzibbur of sources of merit for the coming year please also include the following: In every shul there are singles on both sides of the mechitza who need our help. Please encourage everybody to think of shidduchim for them. I would like to renew my plea again as we approach Pesach – zman cheirusainu – the time of our release from bondage. Our beloved singles feel so entrapped in their situation and they need our help to be set free. We truly hold the keys to set them free. Look around your shul and take note of those who need our assistance and motivate yourself to get involved and think of shidduchim for them. Right now on the 10KBatayYisroel.org website we are showing 6950 suggestions – 893 first dates – 46 engagements. Do you know who accomplished all of this? Klal Yisroel! Regular members of Klal Yisroel like yourselves , who have made a decision to give of themselves ltovas hklal and to bring zchusim to Yisroel and Elisheva are pushing themselves to keep thinking of our singles and reddting shidduchim. If you really want to read some inspirational stories to convince yourself that it is in your abilities to actually make a shidduch please click on the tab called 10K Stories. You can’t help but be impressed by what they are saying. Please join our movement to bring simcha to our singles whom are counting on us and may we all be zocheh to a Chag Kasher V’sameach.

  1. This is a wonderful project! With Hashem’s help we can truly make a difference! If we are zocheh to make a shidduch we do not only help the singles themselves, but their families who also are in pain. And even if our ideas do not lead to an actual shidduch, we give tremendous chizuk to the singles who know that people care and are thinking of them.
