Liberman Weighs Joining His Faction to Blue and White Party

Head of the Yisrael Beiteinu faction Avigdor Liberman has made it known that he is exploring various options for the future of the party, among them is the option to form a joint list together with the Blue and White party in a similar fashion to what the New Right and Likud did on Friday.

Liberman is currently caught in a catch-22. On the one hand, he has been calling for a unity government between Likud and the Blue and White party. On the other hand, he knows very well that should the two parties join together, they will have no need for Yisrael Beiteinu to join them in order to form a government. To make matters worse, he wants to avoid a third election in which his party may fall in the polls.

The third option he faces is joining together with the Blue and White party in a similar fashion to what his party once did with the Likud. A source within the party told Israeli news outlet 0404 that “Joining together with the Blue and White Party is certainly an option. It hasn’t been discussed formally yet, but it is certainly on the table.” Liberman understands that this option will keep him relevant should there be a third round of elections.
