Kever Dovid HaMelech Refurbished

kdhHundreds of thousands of mispallalim visit Kever Dovid HaMelech in the Old City of Jerusalem annually, many to recite tehillim at the site. Over the past year the Jerusalem Development Company, Israel Antiquities Authority, the National Committee for Holy Sites and Mr. Yitzchak Assa of Mexico refurbished the site – bringing it to what Assa believes is appropriate for such a prominent holy site for the Jewish People.

The floor was redone as were the arches, the walls, lighting fixtures and furnishings. A satellite police post was established to prevent vandalism of the tziyun, which has frequently been targeted in the past.

With the completion of work a ceremony was held during which Rosh Yeshivas Ahavas Shalom HaGaon HaRav Yaakov Hillel spoke along with Rabbi of the Kosel and Holy Sites Shmuel Rabinowitz. Other speakers included Mr. Assa and Moshe Leon, with the latter being a contender in the upcoming Jerusalem mayoral race.

Following the ceremony a seuda was held at the adjoining Diaspora Yeshiva. Speakers during the seuda included Rishon L’Tzion Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron, Deputy Minister of Religious Services Rabbi Eliyahu Ben-Dahan and Jerusalem Councilman R’ Yitzchak Pindrus.
