Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, who is running for a second term in office, on Tuesday 14 Elul 5773, unveiled his plan. At present, Barkat will be running against Moshe Leon, who is being backed by Likud/Beitenu and Shas.
The mayor announced that heading his list is City Halls commitment to create 100,000 new jobs in the capital in the coming five years. He shared some of the points of his five-year plan in addition to creating the new jobs, a plan that calls for the completion of a business district near the entrance to the city, which he predicts will create 40,000 new jobs.
Education ranks high in his plan too, with the mayor promising a longer school day at a subsidized rate. Other projects include expanding the light rail to reach Nvei Yaakov and Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital and the cable car to the Kosel.

100K new jobs would close to double the city’s population and would create a gigantic housing shortage on top of one that already exists. It would be like a candidatge for mayor of New York offering to create one million new jobs in the city. We would ask what he’s been smoking.
