Litzman on Leon, Shas, Lieberman & Beit Shemesh Elections

litzmanSpeaking with Kikar Shabbat on Monday, I Kislev 5774, MK Yaakov Litzman denies statements that he promised to support Moshe Leon’s candidacy in the Jerusalem mayoral race. The most recent attack against Litzman came from Yisrael Beitenu leader MK Avigdor Lieberman, who stated regarding Litzman “once a traitor always a traitor.”

Shortly after the municipal elections, Shas leader MK Aryeh Deri told the media that the Ashkenazi chareidim failed to deliver the goods in the election.

Litzman told Kikar that there was never an agreement signed by him committing to the Leon candidacy, not with Shas and not with Yisrael Beitenu. Litzman stated he is willing to submit to a polygraph if the others wish to and it will be evident to all as to who is telling the truth and who is not.

He goes on by denying reports of a break in relations with Deri, insisting his relationship with the Shas leader has not changed as a result of the Yerushalayim election.

Referring to the Beit Shemesh election, Litzman explained that Meir Porush and his Shlomei Emunim party decided to run alone, Klall Chassidi ( כח) because Porush wanted a second seat instead of following the agreement, that the seat goes to a Belz representative. He pointed out that Porush failed in that effort.

  1. Most likely Meir Poresh remembers well the treatment his father received from Ger when Degel HaTorah was basically given his seat on the Aguda list. It’s not surprising that he’s taking an independent line and looking out for his own interests.
