Effort Underway to Stop Rabbanut Involvement in Marriage

2The “A Free Israel” organization is working to gain support for their vision, marriage in the State of Israel without Chief Rabbinate involvement. Using Facebook to spread its word, the organization feels the Chief Rabbinate should be banned.

In Facebook postings the organization explains no one verified Jewishness when one is drafted into the IDF for pays taxes for there is no need or desire to do so when one wishes to get married. “Why must one endure seven levels of hell in preparation for one’s wedding” it adds.

Chareidim can manage marrying without the Chie Rabbinate and most secular residents will not shed a tear. Even in the dati leumi community, a growing number of people are turning to the Tzohar Rabbonim organization.

The Eida Chareidis has recently called for establishing a Sifrei Yuchasin in response to the passage of the new liberal marriage registration law so support for the state system appears to be waning in a number of communities

  1. Since the zionists allow adultery, it isn’t clear what their government’s control of marriage indicates, and it is probably better to follow the view that non-frum people aren’t capable of intending to marry “k’das Moshe v’Yisrael” since otherwise most zionists (and other non-frum Jews) are already safek mamzerim.

  2. Marriage is a religious term. Every religion has their own definition. That said, civil marriage is an ocymoron.
There should be some form of civil commitment opened top all people, regardless of their religion or other beliefs. This commitment should carry the same civil rights as married couples enjoy, but do NOT call it marriage.
Akuperma, your blind hatred of anything israeli is showing again. Your first sstatement is beyond belief.
