Snow, Bone-Chilling Cold Across Upstate NY

coldSnow and bone-chilling temperatures are greeting morning commuters across New York on the first work day of 2014, with some upstate areas expected to get more than a foot of snow by the weekend.

Up to 5 inches of snow has fallen in eastern New York by 8 a.m. Thursday, but the National Weather Service says some areas from Buffalo to Albany could get up to 14 inches by the time the storm subsides on Friday.

Forecasters say Thursday’s high temperatures aren’t likely to hit double digits in many areas, while the highs across the North Country will remain below zero throughout the day. Windy conditions and lows well below zero will make it feel like minus-30 in some parts of the Adirondacks Thursday night and Friday morning.
