Appeal Filed with the Supreme Court Challenging Ruling to Disqualify Beit Shemesh Elections


votRepresented by attorney Ilan Bombech, Beit Shemesh Councilman Meir Balish filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, seeking to overrule a lower court ruling disqualifying the municipal elections. The appeal is filed on behalf of Mayor Moshe Abutbul.

Bombech told the media “There is no precedent for repeat elections only on intent and it must be shown that the attempt [to defraud the elections] succeeded. No one has established that fraud amounting to the 965 votes, which represents the victory separating the candidates, took place. Even if this is proven, why should reelection take place for the city council rather than just for mayor?”

  1. There are significant allegations of fraud by supporters of the “Koach” party – one of the splits from Aguda – who were attempting to ensure that they’d have representation on the city council. As such, the city council elections were just as fraudulent as the ones for mayor…
