Gezeiros Leads to Achdus in the Chareidi Camp; All 3 Moetzes To Meet Next Week

moetThe announcement that the Shaked Committee has decided to support criminal sanctions for non-compliance with the nation’s new draft law has led to harsh condemnatory statements form Gedolei Yisrael Shlita. Amid the expected reactions from chareidi lawmakers, HaGaon HaRav Aaron Yehuda Leib Shteinman Shlita condemned the outrageous Chilul Hashem and called for a massive atzeres tefilla. Other prominent rabbonim spoke out as well including HaGaon HaRav Mordechai Ezrachi Shlita and HaGaon HaRav David Yosef Shlita. added to this is the fact that the Satmar Rebbe of Kiryas Yoel Shlita is in Eretz Yisrael and when he heard of the Shaked Committee’s decision, the rebbe reportedly stated “this is a time to declare war”.

It now appears that next week there will be a joint meeting of the Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael Shlita of Agudas Yisrael, Degel Hatorah and Shas as the rabbonim shlita will meet to discuss the next step. It would appear the Shaked Committee has unwillingly united the chareidim against its decision, which the secular media is now reporting may result in an atzeres that brings out “hundreds of thousands”. There are reports that senior Israel Police commanders are already convening to discuss handling the anticipate event, which may not be entirely peaceful due to the emotional nature of the situation.

Askanim in the various camps have already begun contacting one another and the meeting between the three rabbinical bodies may indeed occur as all involved realize the need for achdus at this critical moment.

Most believe the meeting will be held in Yerushalayim, and among the topics expected to be on the agenda is how to instruct bnei yeshivos to act vis-à-vis the IDF in the coming days, weeks and months.

Israel Police Spokesman for chareidi affairs Shabtai Gerverchik is quoted by Kikar Shabbos confirming police are preparing for a maximum of 300,000 participants, adding law-breaking will not be tolerated. Police officials report the likely venue will be Bar Ilan Junction in Yerushalayim, and based on the 300,000 number, 3,000 policemen will be assigned to the detail. Bar Ilan is the likely venue since the streets are wide enough to accommodate the event.

  1. We should thank Lapid and Bennett for doing so much to promote Jewish unity. The Bnei Torah have been this united since the last time someone was trying to destroy us.

  2. When all the noise will settle (the brothers lapid and bennet back-slapping and the Chareidi Knesset members wailing) it will be clear to all that the nothing changed here. A Yeshiva Bachur will get married a little younger have five children by age 24, will get a rejection letter from Idf when he shows up at 24. All works well as long as he shows up to the draft office. 5k chareidim are needed by 2017 and there are more than enough willing to enlist.
