Rav Wolpe Responds to Incitement Indictment

wolpeRabbi Dov Wolpe of SOS-ISRAEL, one of two rabbonim indicted for incitement (sedition) for encouraging soldiers to disobey orders involving removing Jews from communities in Yehuda and Shomron responds to the indictment.

Rav Wolpe calls the indictment “political, aimed at those true to a Greater Eretz Yisrael”.

“We have yet to actually receive a copy of the indictment that was already announced to the media. This is a surreal political indictment ordered by [State Prosecutor] Shai Nitzan and it represents an attack on Freedom of Speech, intended to silence the voices of opposition before of the next expulsion.”

“Leftist organizations such as Breaking the Silence and others, European activists, B’Tselem and Peace Now have never been placed on trial. The moment Shai Nitzan became the state prosecutor, he uses the post to advance his left-wing political agenda after state prosecutors before him did not file an indictment.

“All of the complaints filed against leftist organizations in the past did not even get to the [preliminary] stage of a police investigation for they were stopped by Nitzan and the trend is to intimidate those loyal to a Greater Eretz Yisrael via the political indictment”.

  1. he has a good point: let them use the same measuring stick and indict b’telem and peace now, who do more to ruin eretz Yisroel than anyone.

why should they be harsh with the right and ignore the left?

  2. hmmm, it is legal charge since his actions do count as incitement and that is illegal. regardless of politics you cant incite people against a government.
however if his claims about similar cases not being charged for political reasons that is shameful for the government. it doesnt excuse his charge but it points out hypocrisy in the system
