Jindal: GOP Needs ‘Obamacare’ Alternative

jindalLouisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is offering an alternative to President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, saying states should play a greater role in containing health care costs.

The potential 2016 presidential candidate says Obama’s health care law should be “repealed in its entirety” but says fellow Republicans need to offer a better way to reform the health care system.

Jindal’s plan would create a $100 billion grant program that states could access if they create insurance reforms to control costs. To participate, states would need to guarantee access to people with pre-existing conditions, a key part of Obamacare.

Obama on Tuesday trumpeted more than 7 million people who have signed up for his health care law despite a troubled rollout. He says the debate over repealing the law “is over.”

  1. Spoken like a governor looking on becoming the first president with no ancestors from “colonial powers” (Obama is half descended from “old stock” WASPs).

  2. Obamacare was signed 4 years ago.
Gov. Jindal, your plan is thoughtful but 4 years late.

(Also, the Congressional Budget Office projected that Obamacare will lower future deficits.
I willing to listen, but I not happy with granting 100 Billion dollars from taxpayers money. States should control medical / insurance costs for their residents … without Federal interference and ‘caveats’. One state did that. Massachusetts. The blueprint for ACA.)

  3. No. 1: Aside from the irrelevance of Mr. Jindal’s ancestry, have you actually researched it? How do you know that none of his ancestors were English or some other variety of white? Or do you just assume. And we know what happens when one “assumes”.

  4. nfgo3: Obama’s WASP ancestry is well known – his family came to American in the 17th century in both Massachusetts Bay colony and Virginia. Jindal’s parents were immigrants from India. While Obama is the first “non-white” president, his ancestry and upbringing are solidly “old stock” (going back to colonial WASPs).

P.S. to #2: If Obamacare will lower deficits, they should be cutting taxes immediately. Instead they are raising them directly, and through new fees, and through higher insurance costs mandated by the government. If Obamacare is saving money, there should be millions of people currently feeling “rich” with new money in their pockets and anxious to spend it. Employment and consumer spending should be soaring. What is not happening suggests that Obamacare is a fiscal train wreck. As the goyim say, “the proof of pudding is in the tasting”.

  5. Re Comment No. 4: Why, when I ask about your knowledge of Mr. Jindal’s ancestry, do you tell me about President Obama’s ancestry? I know Mr. Jindal is a son of Indian immigrants, but many Indians have English ancestors in their family trees, a legacy of English colonial rule. I asked you about Mr. Jindal’s ancestors. Perhaps you are a politician – you give an irrelevant answer rather than say, “I don’t know.”
