Erev Yomtov: A Bloody Day on Israeli Roadways R”L


mdaPolice described erev Pesach 5774 on Israel’s roadways as a bloody day, one that claimed the lives of five motorists and pedestrians. This refers to the 24 hour period leading to erev yomtov.

One person was struck by a vehicle at the Caesarea Interchange of the Coastal Road, heading south. MDA paramedics pronounced the 60-year-old man dead on the scene. The victim was later identified as Haaretz and Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) military analyst Reuven Pedhauser.

A head-on collision between a private vehicle and a truck occurred on Route 70 near Kalil Junction claiming the life of the driver of the private vehicle. Another head-on collision was reported, this time on Route 424 near Moshav Yad Rambam. A 70-year-old male was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics. Two other victims in their 70s were transported to Assaf HaRofeh Hospital with moderate injuries.

A 30-year-old was killed in a chain collision on Kvish 6 south of the Sorek Interchange. A vehicle struck a pedestrian on the side of the highway. There is no explanation given for the man’s presence on the side of the highway.

Another accident was reported near Petzael in the Jordan Valley. Paramedics and EMTs treated five victims. One of the five died a short time later of massive injuries.
