VIDEO: Livni Remains Opposed to Bill to Block Release of Terrorists

pap[VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE]

While the Ministerial Law Committee on Sunday, 11 Iyar passed a bill that will prevent the release of convicted murderers who acted with premeditation, the committee chairwoman, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, remains adamantly opposed to the bill. The bill is sponsored by Bayit Leumi MK Ayelet Shaked and it is backed by MKs from a number of parties.

The bill will permit judges to sentence murderers to a life sentence without parole and without the possibility of receiving a presidential pardon. The bill would amend the Basic Law and modify the presidential clemency powers if passed into law.

In the meantime, as the report indicates, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is continuing efforts to delay the presidential elections this summer, for it is clear the Netanyahus do not wish to see Reuven Rivlin as the nation’s next president. This was clear when the prime minister backed Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein at the expense of Rivlin serving another term. Netanyahu’s initiative does not enjoy widespread backing and some of his Likud colleagues are calling his initiative “undemocratic”.

  1. livni knows that the Arabs make demands to release murderers as a pre condition to so called “peace” talks, which according to her have the highest level of importance. Her position is wrong as it is immoral and life threatening to am yisrael to release such murderers, but her and her ilk are not guiding by morality and what is best for am Yisrael.
