As Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein announced the presidential election will take place on 12 Sivan 5774, Shas MK Nissim Ze’ev told the Knesset Channel he would support Dalia Itzik in the race.
Itzik has not yet officially announced her candidacy but she is expected to do so. Itzik was a longtime member of Labor and then moved to Kadima. She has served as Knesset speaker.
The Knesset Channel asked if he would vote for a woman, one who is not shomer Shabbos. Nissim said if the party gives the ok he would for he views Itzik as a suitable candidate for the presidency post.
