Bayit Yehudi: Crisis with Yesh Atid Resolved

labenSince MK Ayelet Shaked introduced her bill to prevent the future release of terrorists and murderers from prison, tensions have been running high with coalition partner Yesh Atid. Yesh Atid MK Yaakov Peri opposes the bill and his party has been interfering with efforts to advance it.

In a retaliatory move, Bayit Yehudi announced it would block bills sponsored by Yesh Atid. A number of bills were sent back to the Ministerial Law Committee as a result. Yair Lapid retaliated and halted the release of funding to yishuvim.

Bayit Yehudi Knesset Finance Committee Chairman Rabbi Nissim Slomiansky retaliated and held up funds that complicated life for the finance minister.

Likud officials decided to become involved, aware of the fragile state of the coalition. On Wednesday, 21 Iyar, Lapid and Slomiansky met in an effort to iron out differences. That meeting was followed by a meeting between Lapid and Housing Minister (Bayit Yehudi) Uri Ariel.

On Thursday afternoon 22 Iyar, Slomiansky announced “an understanding was reached with Yesh Atid” and this clears the way for the release of funds by the committee. This is expected to occur at the next meeting on Monday, 26 Iyar. As a result, the treasury on Thursday released funds intended to yishuvim.

Once again Yesh Atid and Bayit Yehudi are best friends.

  1. In politics, (past and present) we see the worse relationships ever!!!
Charedim with Meretz if it worked for funding or grants, Mizrachi with Labor if it fulfilled their needs. No alliances, trust or dedication to the voters, bad scenario.

  2. the cheridim will not be heard only in total absinthe of their votes! 60 years of cheridi participation produced nothing except hate and contempt for them, and lineing the pockets of its leadership.
