Rocket Attacks Don’t Deter State Kollel Inspectors

yeshivaWhile rockets continue to fall within the 40km area from the Gaza border, inspectors of the Ministry of Religious Affairs are undeterred, checking chareidi yeshivos to make certain talmidim are learning as they should be.

On Tuesday morning 10 Tammuz 5774, inspectors from the ministry arrived in kollelim in southern areas communities as the rocket fire was continuing. Many of the avreichim were not in beis medrash, but at home together with their children. Many of the camps and summer programs for the children have been cancelled due to the fact they are held in non-fortified buildings.

Avi, an avreich who learns in a yeshiva in Gan Yavne explains inspectors arrived at about noon and asked avreichim for identity cards. A fair number of avreichim were not present as sirens sounded in that community during the morning. They feared leaving their families alone.

Kikar Shabbos reports that Shlomei, an avreich from Ashdod explained what occurred in his kollel. “It is simply absurd. As some of the avreichim really extended themselves and arrived in beis medrash as the city is under fire they had to then face the stress of state inspectors”.

“It is bizarre that they do not understand that today talmidim would be absent due to the rocket fire and state of warfare. One avreich’s children are simply shaking from the sirens and he was unable to leave them alone. Another explained his children are at home and he cannot leave them due to the situation”.

  1. Torah protects!
So don’t worry, the DL Yeshivos and Hesder yeshivos are not closing and will continue to be open for learning.

I guess the Charedim whose yeshivos are moving up north didn’t get the memo that Charedim have been sending out for years, “Torah Protects!”

  2. First of all the inspectors now feel how important the Lomdei Torah are so they really want them to sit and learn, second of all, all the money they took from the chareidim and the small children has been used up in this on going war so they need more money and will cut more funds. To explain them the words CHACHMEI CHELEM AINT ENOUGH

  3. Look, the main argument in favor of supporting Kollelim is that those learning are providing protection for Klal Yisrael. In war time, such protection is all the more necessary – so doesn’t it make sense to make sure nobody is going AWOL? After all, soldiers in the IDF can’t use the excuse that their childrens’ camps were cancelled to avoid showing up for duty – or for Milu’im. Why should the “spiritual soldiers” be treated any differently?

You made your bed – now lie in it.

  4. I am a chareidi and I cannot understand how anyone would not go to yeshiva when our people are in such danger. The soldiers, whether you agree with them or not, left their shaking and trembling children to go fight and protect their nation. The Chareidim have been saying all year that there must be limud torah in order for klal yisroel to exist (which is obviously true), but when we need protection the most they don’t come??
There may be exceptional cases, but those people had better be learning at home if they’re not at yeshiva. Otherwise they’re just supporting the state’s claim that they’re hiding out in the beis medrash, which is a tremendous chillul Hashem.

  5. i was learning in yeshiva at the time of the siren and after the all clear i went home 2 min away to check on my wife and son due to cell phones not working. after the all clear at home i went back but its disgusting that people would attack people for taking care of their kids yes torah protects but shalom bayis and family is important too. and who says these people werent learning at home with their kids or saying tehilim…. we should stop pointing fingers and fighting about the army and klal yisroel should stick together in these difficult time

  6. I think an even bigger protection than limmud Torah would be for people to make a conscious decision to stop with baseless hatred against other Jews, including hatred against chareidim and against kollel inspectors.

  7. When Lapid and his friends started trying to turn Israel to a total secular state, the Gedoilim warned us this could happen. Now that we see it happening, maybe it is time for the people of EY to speak up and throw out the apikursim from the government and strengthen Yiddishkeit through out the land. For more you can look up Divorim 32 Possik 21 and the commentaries on that Possik. This has been foretold in the Torah, Talmud, and Zohar as to the events of the end of days.

  8. I am sorry for not being dan l’kaf zechus. You are right. I have no idea what anybody is doing, so I shouldn’t comment. Please forgive me anyone who was hurt or offhended by my words.

  9. Alex: I don’t agree with Lapid on most things, but what you are saying is just not true. He is NOT trying to make Israel into a totally secular state. He foolishly stuck his nose into an already changing situation, where Chareidim actually want to rid themselves of poverty and support their families. That wouldn’t stop anyone from learning Torah. In addition, there are many Chareidim not in Yeshiva who fraudulently take money for as if they were there learning. Maybe if they were honest, there would be more money for those actually learning. Budgets were cut for the IDF, which is something none of us can afford to let happen.

Also, the blame for the “apikorsim” running the government is equally the fault of the Chareidi parties and their lack of achdus. They are more interested in money and power for their own specific groups than what’s best for Am Yisroel as a whole. If the Chareidi world acted properly and joined with the Traditional world who value Torah, like the Sfardim, who may not be Frum but are very spiritual, things would change. When you are only interested in yourself and in complaining, that’s what you get… more to complain about.

Then again, all you armchair quarterbacks sitting in New York and don’t really know what’s going on, except for the propaganda rags you read, will need Israel to run to when things really get tough for you. If you really want change, be part of it and make Aliya.

  10. What hypocrocy. The 40,000 reservists who are getting called up can’t be home with their children, and the soldiers who had been combing Yehuda and Shomron looking for the missing boys were not home. If you claim that Torah is the Shmirah for Klal Yisroel, now is the time to be in the Beit Midrash, not anywhere else
