NYPD Make Arrest In Mass-Tire Slashings In Flatbush – 21-Year-Old Man Taken Into Custody

arrestThe NYPD has confirmed to YWN that an individual wanted for slashing more than 50 tires in Flatbush has been taken into police custody.

In a story first brought to you by YWN, dozens of residents in the Madison / Midwood section of Brooklyn awoke on Sunday morning to find that their tires had been slashed. Well over 50 vehicles had at least one tire slashed. Some vehicle had two tires slashed. Police worked fast, and searched for many clues – including video footage from multiple security cameras on nearby homes.

Arrested was a 21-year-old male, who is a local resident in the area. The female that police were looking for was his twin sister – who has not been charged. Our sources tell us that the individual is not mentally stable. It is unknown what the charges will be. Police were able to find his from a “crime-stoppers tip”.

Despite claims that this may have been a bias incident, this is in no way the case.

In a statement released to the media, NYC Councilman Chaim Deutsch said the following:

“I thank the 61st Precinct Commanding Officer, Deputy Inspector Carlos Valdez, for his leadership in apprehending a suspect in the mass tire-slashing incident that occurred yesterday. I am grateful to the 61st Precinct Detective Squad and the Hate Crimes Task Force for their swift work, and my colleagues in government, State Senator Simcha Felder and Assembly Member Helene Weinstein, for their support. I want to commend residents for providing the NYPD access to security footage that assisted the NYPD in tracking the suspect. This incident highlights the importance of reporting every crime to the police, and the value of police and community working together.”

  1. I’m glad this wasn’t a bias incident, contrary to greenfield’s initial comment reminding us that this took place in a jewish neighborhood, incorrectly inferring that this was a bias incident.
Now I hope there’s restitution for the victims.

  2. Al Haeitzim ve’al ha’avanim. A maniac roving bklyn with a big knife – B”H it was just tires!!! We still need to be reminded that me-eis Hashem Haysa zos, and do whatever we know we each individually have to do to improve ourselves. It’s probably a good idea to think of this not as a vandalism but as a call for teshuva, and bechasdei Hashem no one was hurt and the guy is caught. So don’t forget about it, pay attention.
