Shas’ Yitzchak Cohen Refuses to Sit with Eli Yishai

yico

Eli Yishai gave numerous interviews to the media in recent days as he works to get his message out to the public, that he is not responsible for the release of the damaging video that was aired by Channel 2 News. One of those interviews was given to Geula Even on Channel 1.

At the end of the interview, she turned to him to thank him and asked him to leave the studio. She explained that MK (Shas) Yitzchak Cohen was scheduled next and he refused to enter while he was present.

When asked if he minds, Yishai said “No. I love all Am Yisrael and wish all my friends much success”.

As Cohen entered, Even asked “To this extent? You cannot even shake hands and say hello?” Cohen told Even “The pasuk says אני שלום וכי אדבר המה למלחמה,” adding “I am not angry at Yishai, but the path that he has chosen in line with his rabbonim”.

  1. There are numerous peshukim that could be quoted to pursue SHALOM, be dan lkav zechus, and not to be mekabel LASHON HARA…

If this continues, the loss of government power to the Charedi olam will increase. Time “to beat swords into plowshares”.

  2. The sefardim got jealous of the Ashkenaz Rav Shteinman/ Rav Shmuel machlokes, so they started their own. And its looking ugly. I don’t think Rav Shmuel was zoche to so many death threats, even forgetting about who its coming from.

  3. To do that in front of a chiloni TV station is a huge chilul hashem. You openly state that someone who follows a different rabbinic authority than you is wrong and can’t even be aknowledged.
    Disgrace.

  4. The Sephardic tradition is one of peace and moderation and ahavat yisrael. These Sha”sniks have studied in Litvishe yeshivas, donned Litvishe attire and, unsurprisingly, are now beginning to exhibit some symptoms of Litvishe behavior.

  5. I don’t get it. Through out this horrible ordeal, Yishai exhibited patients and said only positive comments. How come no one from Shas camp is backing him up? He gave his life to Shas, only to spit back in his face. Where is the tzedek here.

  6. Yagel Libi–Its FASCINATING THEORY YOU HAVE THERE,BUT DID YOU HEAR OF AIN SHULUACH BIDVAR AVEIRO? NOBODY IS FORCING ANYONE TO BEHAVE THE WAY THEY DO, ITS THEIR FREE WILL TO DO WHAT THEY THINK IS RIGHT TO DO.

  7. The more I hear of the way Eli Yishai presents himself, with dignity & restraint, the more impressed I am with him. Now if I could just figure out his party’s platform….

  8. Eli yishai has always been number 2 to arye deri. No disrespect arye deri surrounded himself with the shas rabbis and always mentions maran zl for his power and greed . he was always jealous of Eli yishai and never liked him because he felt threatened by Eli yishai popularity.
Rabbi deri maybe charismatic and knows how to talk and make himself the center of attention but on the other hand his ego will bring division within the Jewish hareidi community.
What is also really sad are the comments that rabbi David Yosef made toward Eli yishai because of his friendship with rabbi deri.
I guess the hurban for שנאת חינם has been forgotten for the sake of power and greed.

  9. NOBODY SHOULD BE READING THIS! IT IS LASHON HARA AND DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE CONDITIONS THAT THE CHOFETZ CHAIM WROTE IN HIS SEFER. ALL WE CAN DO IS DAVEN THAT THIS ARGUMENT SHOULD STOP. THIS IS WHAT IS HOLDING US BACK FROM HAVING BAIT SHELISHI!
…I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT HETER YESHIVA WORLD NEWS HAS TO BE POSTING THIS KIND OF STUFF. THIS IS LASHON HARA AND SHOULD NOT BE POSTED.

  10. Yagel,

When you say peaceful tradition, are you referring to the peaceful way all those Shas politicians peacefully did their time in jail for bribery, lining their own pockets? Perhaps you are referring to the way Shas brought the Oslo accords upon the Jewish people peacefully leading do the deaths and injuries of thousands of fellow Jews? Or, perhaps the way Shas punished Sefardim in other non-Shas yeshivos or parties? Instead of blaming any other group you should learn to accept responsibility for your own failures instead of blaming other for your faults while denying them at the same time.

Everybody has their own issues & faults; blaming each other is neither accurate nor productive.

  11. #4 true. But one thing though, they are responsible for their own actions as well. I am of Sefardi background but it doesn’t matter one’s background. If one is a crook then they are a crook. I refuse to be blamed for the bad actions of Shas and other crooked politicians. Their is only 1 Torah and not a “Sefardi Torah” and “Askenasi Torah” and “Litvish” nor “Hassidic” (And all its sects. Their isn’t even really Haredi vs. Dati-Leumi. Their is only 1 Torah and one Halacha. And no, no “Daas Torah” either which is an EXCUSE for some to control the people and not have their actions questioned. Get real. Make real Teshuva. Return to the Torah and Halacha.
