Rabbi Chaim Druckman Calls Bennett’s Campaign a Major Mistake

druckmanRabbi Chaim Druckman Shlita, a prominent dati leumi rav who stands firmly behind the Bayit Yehudi party and its leader Naftali Bennett, expressed sharp criticism against the party’s election campaign.

Rav Druckman is critical of election videos in which women sing and play a prominent role, in addition to statements made by Ronen Shuval, number 16 on the party ticket. Shuval announced support for civil partnership bill that would permit couples to circumvent the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.

Walla News quotes Rav Druckman saying the ad campaign is a “big mistake that never should have occurred”, questioning the judgement of decision-makers in the party whom approved the videos.

  1. He wants “Bayit Yehudi” not to change course, not to change principles of making nice to the secular while claiming to be religious, but he just wants the ads to be also more appealing to the religious ones, so they all fall in…

  2. Given the way the Israeli system works, Bayit Yehudi moving to be a little more to the “left” on religious issues will work very well. For the first time there is a serious party where Religious Zionists can express themselves without wasting votes. Even in Yachad gains at Bayit Yehudi’s expense, both parties will end up helping Likud rather than Labor to form the government. With Religious Zionist support, Yachad would be a minor hareidi faction with limited chances of passing the threshold. Bayit Yehudi will take votes away from other parties (Likud, Yisrael Beiteinu, and perhaps Yesh Atid), and any votes they lose to Yachad won’t hurt in coaltion negotiations. So its a win-win situation for them all.

  3. For Bennett, the Torah is simply a stepping mat to stand on for higher office. Despite this, Druckman will continue supporting him.

  4. #3. You don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. If there is a problem, fix it!

Also, have you, or anyone else for that matter, criticized the Shas Rabbonim for sticking with them and Deri? Same issue, only, the Shas Rabbonim are adding fuel to the fire with insane comments and not trying to fix anything.
