Another Israel Police Corruption Case Unfolds

mishtAn Israel Police officer of the rank of chief superintendent has been arrested along with a senior official in the Dan Bus Company. According to the allegations against the two, the police officer adjusted parking tickets in return for receiving free rides on buses, including many trips to and from Eilat.

The officer allegedly arranged for trips for his police colleagues around the country, for them and their families and they usually received a significant discount. In one case, the officers and families were driven in a bus to Eilat and had the bus at their disposal for three days. They paid NIS 2,000 with bus company officials explaining their operating cost for the bus and driver is NIS 6,500.

The discrepancies were noticed by Dan internal audit officials and there are now fears that in addition to the unacceptable practice, corporate records were falsified to cover the trail. It is estimated the police and their families benefited from “NIS 1 million in transportation” in unpaid rides.

The clandestine investigation has been going on for some time. The two have been arrested and the Justice Ministry Police Investigation Unit is also involved. The two were brought before the Tel Aviv Magistrate Court on Wednesday 13 Kislev at which time investigators requested extending their remand.
