Mountains Of Garbage Removed After Strike Ends In Jerusalem

As the garbage mounted around Jerusalem, the treasury agreed to allocate an additional NIS 17 million in aid for the capital’s budget, bringing the strike to an end. City Hall announced it would rehire the sanitation workers who were fired, which led to the wildcat strike.

Workers were back on the job immediately and by Monday morning 23 Teves, there was no trace of the garbage mountains that were seen in Machane Yehuda on Sunday afternoon.

The treasury also agreed to allocate an additional NIS 20 million for security in mosdos in Yerushalayim. The treasury and Jerusalem officials agreed to enter into intensive negotiations in the hope of reaching agreement on additional funding for Jerusalem from the national government.
