Efforts are underway in Israel today, Sunday, 7 Shevat to prevent a scheduled Egged driver strike called for Monday morning. The strike, if launched, will impact buses throughout the country.
Histadrut Labor Federation officials report the main argument between labor and management is drivers insist their salary is the lowest in the public sector.
The Egged worker’s committee chairman insists “unilateral steps at our expense can no longer be tolerated”, insisting many drivers’ families can barely make ends meet due to their low salary.
At this time the strike is still set to shut down much of the nation’s public transportation on Monday morning 8 Shevat. Last minutes negotiations and other measures are being taken in the hope of averting the major strike.
