Hikind Meets With Community Members to Address Noise Complaints at Friends, Erasmus Field

Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) was joined by Captain Kenneth Quick of the NYPD 66th Precinct, representatives from Erasmus Field, NYC Parks and Recreation Dept. and local community leaders at Friends Field Clubhouse last Thursday to address numerous noise complaints emanating from the fields on weekend evenings. After listening to nearly 30 irate community members complain about constant noise into the wee hours of the night, including whistle-blowing, loud drumming on bleachers and deafening music, leaders of the community then walked through Friends Field to begin enforcing park rules.

“It is unbelievable and unacceptable that people are being subjected to deafening noise in their own homes,” Assemblyman Hikind said during the meeting. “We have a situation where homeowners’ lives are being disrupted, and we simply cannot allow for that to continue. This isn’t Yankee Stadium; we shouldn’t have to hear loud music being played at midnight.”

Despite the noise complaints, Hikind encouraged the use of Friends and Erasmus Fields, urging members of the community to take advantage of what the fields have to offer. “These parks provide families with hours of entertainment on the weekends, and are a great place to spend time with loved ones. I’m not against anyone having fun in the park, however rules need to be enforced. If the rules are enforced, people will abide by them and we’ll start to see the noise dissipate.”

Hikind added, “I will continue to monitor this noise issue with the help of the Parks Dept. and 66th Precinct, and together, we will do everything in our power to enforce park rules from this moment on.”

  1. Why does Dov always look angry and as if he was glaring at those attending the meeting. It is a neighborhood ball field and because of a shortage of space and the very few with good lighting for night=time play, most of these get used until very late. Just as the goiyeshe neighbors put up with cars double parked outside markets and mikvahs evev Shabbos, simcha halls motzi Shabbos, sidewalks blocked by arbah minim vendors before succos, parking spaces taken by storage containers erev pesach etc, yidden should get used to the noise at night and use earplugs if necessary to get to bed early.

  2. It’s right by Hikind’s home so he’s been aware of the situation for all the years that he’s lived there. When you buy a property by a school or ballfield you pay less because of the annoyances.

  3. GadolHadorah- I’m sorry but that is completely incorrect. Two wrongs don’t make a right; just because some people double park and don’t obey all traffic rules doesn’t mean other people can randomly bang drums in middle of the night. Besides, which sane person does something like that?! I believe Dov lives in the area so of course he’s upset, I’d be angry too if my sleep was interrupted daily. Shkoaich Dov for addressing the issue!

  4. This is so ridiculous, seriously!
Dov doesn’t care what happens outside of his own borders.
He gets so much attention by looking mad and upset, and rarely tries to make any friends unless he can benefit from it somehow. Money money money, and I’m so tired of him complaining. Notice the captain looking disinterested and bored in every one of the photos.
Look, I’m not saying playing loud music or making noise after the kids are asleep is fair all the time, but how often do we make noise as well?
PURIM, LA’G BA’OMER, SIMCHAT BAIS HASHUEVA etc.
what if this was noise from Purim? Or a motzoi Shabbat festival?

I think this is somewhat of a chillul Hashem made by several blocks of rich and entitled people who just simply don’t want to share their neighborhood.
