A Victory For Heinz Over Osem In The Israeli Ketchup War

1Some time ago, Osem enjoyed a sweet victory as it went to court, resulting in compelling Heinz to relabel its internationally known ketchup to tomato dressing. This was because Heinz did not contain a minimum of 10% tomatoes as Israeli regulation requires for a product to referred to as ketchup.

However, things are changing as Health Minister Yaakov Litzman and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon are changing the regulations and once again, Heinz will be in compliance with Israels definition of ketchup and it may now call itself ketchup. The new regulation is based on an international standard, which does not compel the 10% tomato minimum, applying it to Israel as well. As a result, Ynet reports Heinz will once again be selling its ketchup in Israel instead of having to label its bottle tomato dressing.
