A number of prominent Bnei Brak rabbonim shlita came out against the violent protests that spread to the Torah city this week. Signing the kol korei condemning the violence were HaGaon HaRav Nissim Karelitz Shlita, HaGaon HaRav Moshe Yehuda Leib Landau Shlita, HaGaon HaRav Shimon Ba’adani Shlita, and HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Halevy Wosner Shlita.

Their call referred to this week’s violence by juveniles in the area of Hashomer and Ezra Streets, protests against ongoing excavations in Jaffa. They state the participants lack yiras Hashem and those aligning with them place themselves in danger.

  1. I’m a bit surprised that Rav Shteinman, R’ Michel Yehuda etc. wouldn’t be signed on such a thing. Basically, the Rabbonim and Poskim signed; the Roshei Yeshiva didn’t…

  2. FINALLY the gedolim said something! I feel bad for these youths tho, I know a number of psychologists in Israel for them to see, who deal with kids at risk. Hopefully they’ll get better.

  3. #5, that could be true, but atleast now people will know that these violent protests do not represent the Charedi public.

  4. The Rabbonim can sign on kol koraihs knowing full well that they will be ignored. The people who ignore them are part of our system and were educated in it. One can argue that they do not represent us, it’s a fringe element all the excuses under the sun but at the end of the day most charadim if not agreeing with the method (rioting) will agree with the cause. And yes we need to be honest, these people are part of our community and also not only the fringe elements take part.
As per usual we ignore the real root cause of the problem – education.
In the charadi system here in Israel every child is taught that our position is always correct and never wrong and the secular Zionist position is always wrong and never correct.
We never take the time or responsibility to investigate these things for ourselves and come to our own conclusions.
We also do know how to respond even when we are correct. But the bottom line is flaw in our chinuch.
