On Sunday, crews were putting the finishing touches on the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks display.
About 40,000 shells, featuring 50 designs and 17 colors will be fired over the Hudson River from six barges just after 9 p.m. Monday.
The show will also celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.
The best viewing spots will be the along West Side Highway, and the designated viewing area is accessible through several access points along 11th Avenue.
Drivers should note that the northbound lanes of the highway will be closed between 23rd Street and 57th Street from 4:30 p.m. Sunday until 1 a.m. Monday.
The southbound lanes from 79th Street to 42nd Street will also be closed.
The police department reminds anyone coming to see the show that no large backpacks, lawn chairs, lawn blankets, coolers or alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the viewing area.
All restricted items are subject to search and seizure.

Meanwhile, as Monday is a national holiday, there will be closures and service changes around the city.
Post offices, government buildings, city offices and courts will all be closed and banks have the option to close.
There will be no mail delivery and no garbage or recycling pickup.
Subways and buses will run on a Saturday schedule and Metro-North and Long Island Railroad will run on a Sunday schedule.
The Staten Island Ferry will operate on a holiday schedule, with no ferries between the hours of 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. because of the fireworks.
Alternate-side parking will be suspended and drivers will not have to feed the meters.
