The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index lost 5.35 points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,385.59. The Dow slipped 11.81, or 0.1 percent, to 12,820.13. The Nasdaq Composite Index decreased 13.3, or 0.6 percent, to 2,412.8. Six stocks fell for every five that rose on the New York Stock Exchange.
