Officials announce there will be a 9% increase in electric rates, a far cry from the 30% requested by Israel Electric Company officials. The final amount of the increase has yet to be determined, but officials this week are signaling 9%, to take effect in February 2012.

Treasury officials must approve the rate hike before it goes into effect.
