Upon reaching his 80th birthday, Tel Aviv/Yaffo Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau Shlita stepped down. However, he remains at City Hall as an advisor to the mayor for the coming six months as well as continuing to be responsible for the citys kashrus.
According to a Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) report, while Rabbi Lau is no longer serving in the capital as the citys Chief Rabbi, he is remaining in the religious council in a special capacity to fill the void until a new Chief Rabbis is appointed.
It is highlighted that this is a one-time arrangement and will not be the case every time a Chief Rabbi steps down or retires.

Um, Tel Aviv is NOT the capital! Yerushalayim is the capital.
