Egyptian Consul Meets With Chacham Ovadia & Invites Him To Egypt

ovadia.jpgEarlier today, the Egyptian Consul in Israel met with Chacham Ovadia Yosef Shlita and Minister Eli Yishai in Chacham Ovadia’s home in Har Nof, Yerushalayim.

Chacham Ovadia started off the meeting by describing how precious the Mitzvah of “Pidyon Shevuyim” is, and asked him to please do what ever he can to secure the release of captured soldier Gilad Shalit.

He then brought up the topic of the illegal arms smuggling, which is rampant on the Egypt/Israel border. Chacham Ovadia told the Consul that “it’s not good for Israel, but also not for Egypt.”

At the end of the meeting, the Consul invited Chacham Ovadia to visit Egypt – and according to some sources invited him to meet with Egyptian President Mubarak.

Yeshivaworld had reported on October, 9 (HERE), that Chacham Ovadia had written a letter to President Mubarak, and was delivered by Shas Minister Eli Yishai – pleading for help in the release of Gilad Shalit.

  1. Got to give the Chacham credit, he will always say what is on his mind, no fears, no cutesy diplomacy, says it straight,, LET SHALIT FREE, and SMUGGLING is not for your benefit.

  2. Both Chacham Ovadia, SHLITA, and the Minkaczer Rebbe, SHLITA, are modeling this week, the proper behavior. It is our obligation to help out ANY Yid, whether captures innocently, or arrested on a legitimate charge.

Thank you both of you, for your mesiras nefesh and efforts.

And, Yes, I am Ashkenazi, but still have tons of ‘Kavod HaRav’ for this Torah Giant.

We all need to have mutual respect for all Torah Gedolim even if they come from a differnt “Sect” or “Branch” of Yiddishkeit.

Even those whom, we find fault with in our ignorance, need to be respected…and appreciated.

  3. Rav Yankel Bleich of Kiev met with President Hussian as well as going mamosh into the lions den of Gaza, 2 years ago to meet with Arafat as well as others to try to get Iran to release the 10 Yideen who faced death at the time.

I dont know if it helped or not, but the Yidden were freed a few months later…

    I guess it cant hurt…

  4. I’m learnig now mesechta Brochois, there is not one topic where in noigea lemaisa shailos where Chacham Yosef doesn’t come up.
If he would be an Ashkenazi He would be the undesputed Godoil hador!
