Officials in Beit Shemesh City Hall announce a major operation took place to remove modesty signs in areas of the city that were ruled to be illegal by the High Court of Justice.

City Hall released a message to the press on Thursday, 26 Kislev, that two days after the signs were removed, they were back in place. The city launched a second operation, during predawn hours, again in cooperation with police, removing the signs again in compliance with the High Court’s stern instructions.

The court expressed it anger at city officials for failing to rid the city of the signs, warning Mayor Moshe Abutbul that time around, he would be held in contempt of court. The city has since spent an estimated NIS 50,000 to remove six of the eight signs found in the area of Nahar Yarden Street in Ramat Beit Shemesh.
