Jerusalem Naming Committee Remembers PM Sharon And Major Roi Klein

The Jerusalem Naming Committee has selected a number of streets that will be renamed to perpetuate the memory of a select few. Earlier, YWN-ISRAEL reported Bar Ilan Junction would be named Maran Junction in memory of HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZTL and a street in Ramot would be named after Maran HaGaon HaRav Sholom Elyashiv ZTL.

The committee has also decided to name the road paved between Motza and Shaare Zedek Hospital after the late prime minister, Ariel Sharon. Chiefs of Staff Amnon Lipkin-Shachak and Moshe Levi will be perpetuated on streets in the Pisgat Zeev neighborhood of the northern capital.

In addition, in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of the state, the decision was made to perpetuate extreme self-sacrifice by IDF soldiers and officers, headed by Major Roi Klein HYD, who jumped on a hand grenade while shouting Shema Yisrael to have his troops in Lebanon during the Second Lebanon War. Pvt. Natan Elbaz HYD, who was killed in the 1950s, also jumping on a grenade to save his men.
