An Effort to Rid the System of Nuisance Parties

Of the many parties running in the national election, only a few will earn enough votes to pass the minimum threshold to earn two seats in Knesset, the minimum number. As such, many Israelis feel the smaller “nuisance parties” should be eliminated since too many votes are wasted.

Knesset legal advisor attorney Eyal Yinon has an idea along those very same lines, that any party failing to earn the minimum number of seats should be compelled to return the election funding, which in essence is an advance in the party’s annual funding based on the assumption the party will enter Knesset.
