VIDEOS/PHOTOS: Tzefanya Street, Geula: Protests Surround Police Removal Of A Dead Person To Prevent An Autopsy

(VIDEOS AND PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

News spread of the death of a person who was staying in the hostel on Tzefanya Street in Geula on motzei Shabbos. The building is known to be home to drug users and unfortunates. A crowd formed quickly amid the word on the street that police were coming to claim the body to perform an autopsy. The protesters were outside for hours, interfering with police.

Ultimately, the decision was reached that the body would be taken to Shaare Zedek Hospital for an external autopsy as opposed to an invasive one in the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute.

At about 2:30am, police had had enough of the shoving, pushing and shouting, the window and left-hand mirror of at least one police vehicle were broken by the crowd. Police began using stun grenades to distance the crowd from the building.

In one of the videos it does appear one protester, who was blocking the ambulance carrying the body was struck by that ambulance as it left the scene.
