Following a “complex and determined intelligence and operational effort” that began immediately after the terrorist attack in which Rabbi Raziel Shevach HY”D was murdered, Ahmad Nassar Jarrar was killed early Tuesday morning, 21 Shevat 5778 in a combined Shin Bet, IDF and Israel Police operation in Yamoun, near Jenin.

Jarrar, 23, was the principal operative in the terrorist cell that perpetrated the shooting against the father 6 near Gilad Farm, and personally participated in the attack.

During the attempt to arrest him, Jarrar emerged from the structure in which he was hiding armed with an M-16 assault rifle and a bag of explosives, and was shot by the security forces.

No Israeli troops were injured.

Jarrar had evaded capture during an IDF raid in Jenin on January 18. One terrorist was killed and another captured in that raid, though their identities were not disclosed.

Jarrar is the son of a senior Hamas military wing member Nasser Jarrar – who himself was killed by Israeli forces 16 years ago. The pair are pictured in the attached tweet.

The Shin Bet investigation of detained cell members has revealed that the cell was involved in other attempts to carry out and plan terrorist attacks. The investigation is continuing; a gag order has been placed on further details.

Responding to the Shin Bet operation, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated, “I praise the security forces for the determined and complex operation they carried out last night to apprehend the terrorist, who was ultimately eliminated. Several days ago, I told Rabbi Raziel Shevach’s widow that we would catch the murderers and last night the mission was completed.

The security forces will catch whoever tries to attack Israeli citizens and we will deal with them to the fullest extent of the law. So it will be with the murderers of Rabbi Itamar Ben-Gal.”

Rav Ben-Gal was murdered in a stabbing attack near Ariel, in Shomron, on Monday, 20 Shevat.

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman released a similar statement.

“The account has been settled. I praise the IDF, Shin Bet, and Israel Police on their successful operation. It was clear that it was only a matter of time until we reached the head of the cell that murdered Rabbi Raziel Shevach, may his memory be blessed. I hope and believe that that we will also soon get our hands on the murderer of Rabbi Itamar Ben Gal,” Lieberman said.
