35 Sephardi Rabbonim Prohibit Children To Dress As Police Or IDF Soldiers For Purim

Thirty-Five Sephardi rabbonim led by HaGaon HaRav Moshe Tzadka and HaGaon HaRav Shimon Ba’adani have turned to talmidei torah to warn their talmidim that they should not dress as police or soldiers for Purim in order to separate themselves from the masses (להבדל מהם ומהמונם).

Other rabbonim who signed include HaGaon Rav Ezra Nissan, HaGaon Rav Yehuda Cohen and HaGaon Rav Yitzchak Bracha.

The explain that unfortunately, the government is seeking to entice and attract chareidim to abandon their derech, one of the Torah HaKadosha and enlist in the IDF or Sheirut Leumi, which has been prohibited by Gedolei Yisrael ZT”L throughout the generations.

They add that since the costume has an impact on one’s neshama, one should not permit children to dress in such uniforms, police or soldier, in an effort to separate between them and the others. They add the children should be encouraged to dress as talmidei chachamim and tzaddikim.

  1. I had this theory with my children many years ago even in America.
There are so many toradiga and eidela and fun costumes to wear…
And avada no guns, even all year, as toys.

  2. I don’t see any problem with the IDF, I do see problems with the rabbonim who can not see clearly and use their position to make money.

Why not educate the youth to be yerat shamiyim so that if and when they go out to work or to go into the army they will be a credit to HaShem instead of lousy lazy bums who hide out in the beis medresh for fear of the outside world?

With rabbis like this, who needs enemies?
