Once again, a Chabad shaliach manning a tefilin booth is targeted by municipal inspectors determined to shut him down.

In this case, a shaliach who mans a booth outside the Jerusalem Central Bus Station, all day, was targeted with a fine of NIS 475, and instructed to ‘shut it down’.

When contacted to address the matter, Jerusalem City Hall officials stated the summons would be canceled, adding the mayor and city officials have the utmost respect for the activities of Chabad shluchim nationwide, assuring the media the summons would be canceled and the tefilin booth would be permitted to continue operating as it has in the past, but the shaliach was informed he must take the necessary measures to make the booth legal, complying with city ordinances.

Mayoral candidate and Jerusalem Councilman (Hisorarus) Ofir Berkowitz added, “Jerusalem is the capital of the Jewish Peoiple and we must be responsible to all residents, permitting them to feel comfortable and a portion of the city’s atmosphere. This includes secular, religious and chareidim alike.

It is forbidden to create a picture of any one party in the nation of war against Judaism and tefillin. You have to find the formula for a shared life with dignity. If the stall is not legal, we must examine whether it is possible to regulate the issue, so that everyone can feel a part of all of us in Jerusalem.”

Similar occurrences took place in Ramat Aviv in October of 2017, as well as in Herzliya last year.
