Meah Shearim Hate Campaign Against The Kippa Sruga Community

New pashkavilim were seen in Meah Shearim targeting the kippa sruga community, timed ahead of Rosh Chodesh Menachem Av.

The posters read:

  • Those who wear kippot srugot (knitted yarmulkes) serve in the IDF
  • They learn in universities
  • They educate their children in compliance with Education Ministry directive
  • They send their children to regular high schools
  • Hence, they opt to wear a knitted kippa to accommodate the need to ‘filter’ some of the taryag mitzvos.

Therefore, today there are chareidim, which they wish to compel to abandon its tradition, to persuade them to serve in the IDF, to learn in universities and etc.

We are launching a campaign to all heads of organizations serving [in the IDF] and participating in efforts to change us, please, complete your own revolution first!

They are calling for total separation from anyone who might be on the fence, feeling any connection to the dati leumi community. Those in the frum community serving in the IDF are called upon to change their yarmulke to a kippa sruga!

  • The chareidi community will breath a sigh of relief when we separate from you
  • Those of you who are entangled, feel a lessening in the battle against you
  • The dati leumi tzibur will receive you with open arms
  • The secularists will be happy and rejoice over those joining them, and in the coming generation, they will receive the natural increase of the 50% that went from sruga to non-religious

  1. This is probably not representative of any community. It only takes one meshuga to make and post signs like this all over town.

  2. I don’t think anyone is surprised. These types of Jews-By-Birth-Only have been with us for thousands of years, and will be with us until the coming of Mosiach. I’m just scared when this will lead חס ושלום to שפיכת דמים. Not IF it will, but WHEN it will. And the quiet from the Gedolim is deafening because they not leaders but followers. And this is not just from the Hasidic courts, but even the Torah yidden. (Look at the strike of the bachrim at Chevron Yeshiva this week!) Uncle Moishie is right. We need Mosiach now!!!

  3. Looks like we will all have exile Tisha’bav for many more years to come….
When Pesach rolls around, it’s practically a waste of time to say “L’shana Haba…” at the seder.

  4. So sad to see especially at this time of year. Last Shabbos I heard about a wonderful Jew who said the mishna that states הוי דן כל אדם לכף זכות is only bedieved, l’chatchila you shouldn’t judge at all!

  5. A couple of comments:
    1. GREAT TIMING to launch a HATE campaign! During the 9 days!
    2. Keep in mind, it takes only one person to make a flier. There is no way of knowing how many people are behind this “campaign”. Also, no name or organization is attached to this flier. It’s probably a handful of hooligans that want to make their opinion known.
    3. Just because it’s posted in Meah Shearim does not mean that the community backs this. Some, perhaps, but we can not say what the majority feel.
    4. You may have not noticed, but someone already tried to tear it down (look at the bottom right corner).

Wish we would work on Ahavas Yisrael instead. Maybe then we could change things for the better.

  6. Sometimes I think that we Chareidim are ready to run the State of Israel and that we are mature and ready to take over from the Chillonim…

… then I read about these Bozos. *Facepalm*

  7. Wow!

Who instilled in them such hate and venom towards a fellow Yid??!!

When the Satmar Rav, R’ Yoel, began this campaign (weather he was right or wrong – I don’t think he meant it should stoop to such a level.

  8. Its very interesting they put up that poster. those who put op this poster have yet to realize that some of those who wear a Kippa Sruga are alot more religious than some some who claim to be religious in Meah Shearim

  9. What does the Satmar Ruv Z”l have to do with this? A bunch of nuts hang up signs and someone questions the Gedolim’s deafening silence? What on Earth does that mean? Which Gedolim are you referring to? Are you their manager? You think they have nothing better to do than comment on every poster a meshuganer puts up?

  10. The posters read:

Those who wear kippot srugot (knitted yarmulkes) serve in the IDF
THOSE WHO WEAR WHITE KIPPOT SERUGOS DON’T SERVE ANYWHERE.

    They learn in universities
THOSE WHO WEAR WHITE KIPPOT SERUGOS DON’T LEARN ANYWHERE.

They educate their children in compliance with Education Ministry directive
THOSE WHO WEAR WHITE KIPPOT SERUGOS EDUCATE THEIR CHILDREN WITH HATRED AND VIOLENCE.

They send their children to regular high schools
THOSE WHO WEAR WHITE KIPPOT SERUGOS SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO DEMONSTRATIONS.

Hence, they opt to wear a knitted kippa to accommodate the need to ‘filter’ some of the taryag mitzvos.
THOSE WHO WEAR WHITE KIPPOT SERUGOS FEEL THE NEED TO FILTER ALL OF THE MITZVOS.

THOSE WHO WEAR WHITE KIPPOT SERUGOS ARE A DISGRACE TO HUMANITY.

  11. i am happy to report that last time i bought seforim in meah sharim they took my money despite my large, black kipa serugah. i will be back in about 2 weeks; hope for the same treatment

  12. The title of this article should read:
YWN hate campaign against chareidi Jews (continued, to be continued)

As for you, zahavasdad, the mizrachi have always been closer to the chilonim – that’s their shittah. They do not respect chareidi gedolim as they discount chareidi hashkafah and psak halachah.
And for you who like to “blame it on the Satmar Rav” recall that it was the Chazon Ish who sent Rav Shalom Shwadron to mock the Mizrachi.
Savlanut, if you think that it’s something to aspire to that the chareidim should run the medinah, then you’re just exposing your own hashkafah as mizrachi…

  13. An unidentified individual paid another person to hang up some posters in Meah Shearim. The poster seems to say that its author prefers those Chareidim who are breaking what the poster’s author feels is the Chareidi consensus about army service, university attendance, and a few other things, to stop “pretending” to be Chareidim, but rather to openly declare that they (to his mind) have joined the dati leumi community. All this is in the view of the guy who paid for the poster. There is actually not a word that evinces any hate of the DL community — as the headline declares. But rather that if you are not part of the Chareidi consensu, stop acting and dressing Chareidi. One guy expressing his opinion and his wish for some Chareidim to stop identifying as Chareidim is not quite a “hate campaign against the kippa sruga community.” There is a website that features a section they call “Haredi Community” in which they consistently bash the Chareidim for any and every fault– real or perceived. Not a word about all the chessed, financial and material, the meals, transportation to and from hospitals, and related chassodim, that are part and parcel of the Chareidi community. Just an endless barrage of criticism and disdain for frum Jews. THAT is a hate campaign — not the antics of one anonymous person paying for some posters on which he doesn’t even put his name or that of any rav or organization.
