Mines Cleared To Permit Additional Construction In Yehuda And Shomron

A total of 1400 new housing units are expected to be built soon in Karnei Shomron after the mine explosion process recently reached the final stage.

The head of the local council, Yigal Lahav, arrived Tuesday at the office of Deputy Defense Minister Eli Ben Dahan, who led the move and transferred funds to him. Lahav thanked him on behalf of the council’s residents.

The mine clearance process began more than three months ago, during which more than 2000 landmines and dozens of missiles were discovered, which were detonated in a controlled fashion in an area of 80 dunams.

“I am glad that this project has been implemented and that the mines have been removed from the area in question,” said the deputy minister, adding that he “hopes to see the bulldozers coming to the area soon and begin the residential projects of 1400 housing units in this area in order to prepare them for habitation”.
