Vehicle Slams into Arkia Flight in Eilat Airport Just Before Takeoff

A Boeing 757 plane belonging to the Israeli airline Arkia was hit Thursday by a vehicle transporting disabled persons as the plane was about to take off. The incident occurred during the morning hours.

According to the Ynet report, a car transporting disabled people from the terminal to the plane collided with the side of the plane, which was about to take off from the Eilat airport on its way to Tel Aviv. The injury created a hole in the plane’s chassis, and the passengers were removed from it and returned to the terminal.

“Suddenly we heard a boom, as if the plane had been hit,” said one of the passengers. At first, we did not know what was going on, but later they told us that a lift vehicle that was boarding a plane with disabled passengers crashed into an airplane and made a hole in it.”

It should be noted that due to the high demand for flights on the summer weekends, passengers waited a long time. At first the passengers were told that an another flight would be organized, but later they were told that they would be returned to Tel Aviv via buses and would be compensated.
