Eida Chareidis Warns Against Permitting State to Compel any Change in the Curriculum of Chareidi Education

An open letter that is not dated, but signed by Ravaad Eida Chareidis HaGaon HaRav Moshe Sternbuch Shlita, the badatz is calling on talmidei torah not to permit state officials from the Ministry of Education to have a hand in changing the curriculum to comply with state demands to introduce secular studies. This includes English, mathematics and science, basic subjects.

An accompanying pashkavil states that testers and inspectors from the ministry have been visiting schools and working to exert their influence schools towards principals accepting changes that are contrary to instructions from Gedolei Yisrael Shlita. The pashkavil also carries the name of Gavaad Eida Chareidis HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Tuvia Weiss.

The battle has intensified since the ministry is headed by Naftali Bennet, the minister who chairs the dati leumi Bayit Yehudi party, who feels that by introducing the secular subjects, this will better prepare the students for integrating into society and the workplace when they become adults. However, Gedolim remain adamantly opposed to accepting the changes, which has resulted in some yeshivos losing state funding for failing to comply with the minimum curriculum.

  1. A decision will have to be made
    1. Allow Math , science & English to be taught by Charedi teachers under a Charedi supervision , as suggested by Ministry of Education or
    2. Start charging tuition in Talmud Torah’s Nossi’s in Israel to cover funding.

BTW – the Bais Yaakov & Chinuch Atzmai schools DO TEACH theses subjects.

  2. I am pretty sure frum people in America pay more attention to the miscellaneous ramblings of the Eida than frum people in Eretz Hakodesh.
