Sharon: Appeal for Mercy Not Mine

omri.jpgFormer MK Omri Sharon, a son of former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, announced the effort underway by 30 members of Knesset, including six cabinet ministers seeking his release from prison is not being spearheaded by him.

According to correspondent Ben Caspi, he spoke with the younger Sharon on Monday night, at which time he informed him that he intends to serve his prison sentence and he is not supporting the efforts on his behalf.

Ministers Ze’ev Boim, Ronnie Bar-On, Ruchama Avraham and Shaul Mofaz, along with MKs have already gathered 30 signatures towards petition President Shimon Peres on Sharon’s behalf, to have him released from prison. The move appears to have been undertaken by Deputy Foreign Minister Majalli Whbee.

MK Ronit Tirosh (Kadima) told reporters that yes, Sharon did break the law but he was punished too severely for his crime. She explained she supports the effort to grant him clemency for humanitarian reasons due to his father’s prolonged comatose state. She added that instead of sentencing him to seven months in prison, he could have benefited the public more by being sentenced to community service.

Most of the signatories for the clemency appeal are from the Kadima Party which was started by former PM Sharon.

Sharon was found guilty of election fraud for his efforts on his father’s behalf.

  1. OMRI, it is time to pay for your actions. Do it like a man and tell everyone to mind their own business and daven for you instead.

  2. Meanwhile, this poor frum girl who does not recognize the secular israeli courts, has been put in jail for more than three months. This country is a disgrace! Protectzia here and Protectzia there and the next thing you know you can get away with anything as long as your on the same side of the government in charge! The Israeli government is by far the most corrupt “democracy” out there.
