IDF Launches Investigations Into The Shooting Deaths Of Gazans Killed In Border Riots


The IDF Judge Advocate General, Major-General Sharon Apek, on Tuesday, 10 Elul, announced the launching of investigations into two incidents in which Gazans rioting along the border fence to southern Israel were killed.

The first investigation pertains to an incident that occurred on 30 March 2018, on the border east of Jabalya in Gaza. The second case pertains to an incident which occurred on 12 July 2018, in which Utman Halas was killed near the Karnei Crossing.

The IDF Spokesman Unit message states, “The decision was made after examining the command debriefings, the findings of the General Staff’s debriefing mechanism and the information received by the IDF, in view of the suspicion that the shooting was not in accordance with the rules of engagement.

“Upon completion of the investigations, their findings will be examined by the Judge Advocate General’s Office.

“The General Staff debriefing mechanism continues its activity to investigate the events and its findings are transferred to the Judge Advocate General’s Office.”
