New Warning System to Alert Civilians of Rocket Attacks

siren.jpgHundreds of warning systems were recently set up throughout Ashkelon, Netivot and multiple other communities currently under the threat of rocket fire. The warning systems will sound immediately before rocket fire occurs throughout communities under threat.

The new system was produced by the Homefront Command in response to recent Grad missile fire on Ashkelon.  The warning system will be placed in various residential and office buildings and will sound, warning civilians of impending rocker attacks in a more timely and a more accurate manner.  “During recent years we have been developing, proper warning systems for non-conventional buildings,” explained Homefront Commanders Communication Head, Lieutenant Colonel Uri Peretz. “These are buildings or houses where it is difficult for the sirens to be heard due to the structure of the building or background noise.”  This unique warning system will only sound in areas under direct threat of falling rockets in order to decrease the spread of panic amongst civilians who are not directly in harm’s way.

Each warning system will be connected to a beeper that will receive messages from a control and inspection center that monitors the Qassam rocket and missile fire.  After receiving a message, the beeper center will alert the warning system that, in turn, will then activate a siren in each of the buildings under threat. “It is the duty of the army to provide its citizens with enough time to reach a safe location and to relive their dependence on a beeper system that is likely to be overburdened during emergency situations,” added Lieutenant Colonel Peretz.
