PHOTOS: Protest Outside Jaffa Military Court During Hearing For Alleged Frum Woman Arrested By IDF

(PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

Several dozen protesters affiliated with the Peleg-Yerushalmi and Eida Chareidis were outside the Jaffa Military Court in Tel Aviv early Sunday afternoon, 15 Elul, as a hearing was taking place for a girl arrested by military authorities for not reporting for military service. Protsters claim the woman is Frum, but many – including the IDF – say she claims to be Frum just to assist her is getting a deferment from the military.

They were on hand to protest the arrest and her subsequent induction into the IDF of a frum woman. They carried signs “It is immoral to induct women” and “ייהרג ובל יעבור”. There were also signs “Let the girl go, as she remains in a military prison for her tenacious refusal to serve in the IDF.

  1. WHY DID THE HEADLINE SAY”ALLEGED’? FORCED CONSCRIPTION OF WOMEN – RELIGIOUS OR NOT – IS BARBARIC AND IMMORAL. APART FROM ISRAEL, ONLY NORTH KOREA HAS COMPULSORY MILITARY SERVICE FOR WOMEN

  2. pretending to be charadi is not uncommon by non religious people in order to get out of the requirement that all citizens serve in the IDF.

Since the government gives a deferment to religious people and a ‘petur’ to all religious girls, it is not uncommon for a non religious girl to claim she is religious. The government is aware of it.

Similarly, it is common for men to claim they learn Torah to get a deferment. Peleg is a group of A-holes that dress like frum people and say they learn Torah but it is obvious to all that they are idiots who do not know what is Torah since they do not spread peace or teach the proper derech of the Torah.

They also should be put in jail with their Arab friends…

  3. naftalicoleman, i hope you are on a list that disaalows your entry into israel. rodman needs a sidekick to visit north korea with, you fit the bill

  4. You fail to mention that the protest was called for and attended by leading Rabanim from all walks of the mainstream Chareidi community , such as Horav Vosner , Horav Adis , Horav Shapiro of Breslov and Horav Zorger of Satmer . More important however is the fact you fail to mention , that this obviously frum girl was acquitted immediately and received her Petur on the spot due to these protests against Giyus Bonos which only proves that which we all knew that she is a frum girl.

  5. The girl probably didn’t learn in Beis Yaakov. Most likely some kind of ba’alas teshuva, or partially frum girl, on the way to becoming a ba’alas teshuva. The IDF doesn’t recognize such a person as “religious,” and feels that she ought to be condemned to the pritzus in the army. An army that even dati le’umi rabbis forbid girls in their schools from joining.
The protesters are standing and demonstrating on the sidewalk. No one is claiming that traffic was blocked, that people couldn’t get home, to work, or to their doctor appointments. Is that also not acceptable? Is it forbidden, according to YWN, to conduct any sort of public protest? If the issue was evacuating a settlement or any other soil-related issue, everyone, including YWN and all the critical commenters would be encouraging participation. Or at least, would present the demonstration in a positive light.

  6. i guess if I would have used some nivul pe like one of the other commenters did when referring to what sort of group the Peleg folks are, it might not take 6 hours to get moderated. Seems that a less moderate comment doesn’t take so much time to moderate….

  7. The girl was a baalas teshuvah. So while she didn’t go to a Beis Yaakov, she shouldn’t be disregarded.
Anyway, the Chazon Ish already paskened that its yehareg ve’al ya’avor even for a completely secular girl to join the army.
Are we forgetting such basic history?
Why does it bother YWN if she’s frum or not, even if she was completely irreligious, if she doesn’t want to enlist it is our responsibility to do everything we can to help her get out of it.
Imagine the campaign had a completely secular girl been arrested anywhere but Israel. There would have been protests, and the Agudah would have gotten involved.
    Why is she different?
