Events along the Gaza border continue to heat up as do the incendiary devices sent over the border from inside Gaza attached to balloons and kites.

On Tuesday morning, terrorists were detected as they were preparing to launch an incendiary balloon over the border into southern Israel. The terrorists were targeted by the IDF from the air for a third time in the past two days, with the air force firing at the terrorists in northern Gaza. Sources inside Gaza report there were no injuries.

On Monday, thousands of Palestinian rioters gathered near Zikim Beach and threw firebombs and explosives at IDF forces in the area, who responded with live fire and weapons to disperse demonstrations. A number of Palestinian boats participated in the violent attacks and the Palestinian Health Ministry reported dozens of wounded.

Prior to that, two terrorists placed a bomb near the security fence in southern Gaza. The bomb exploded and caused damage to the border fence and the IDF attacked a Hamas objective in response.

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman referred to the recent escalation in the south, as well as attempts to revive Egyptian-brokered mediation efforts, saying at the meeting of his faction that he “does not believe in an arrangement with Hamas, it will not work, but we have to try. I said from the outset that the only think that will work is to deliver a hard blow. The hardest we know, and only then may we achieve our objective”.
