BD”E: The Man Who Fed Thousands In Tel Aviv Is Niftar

Baruch Dayan Emmes: R’ Eliyahu Aminov Z”L, a leading figure in the Buchari community in Israel and a former Tel Aviv City Councilman, was niftar at the age of 69.

The niftar was a resident of the Shapira neighborhood of Tel Aviv, as well as a well-known leader in the Buchari community in Eretz Yisrael. He was also known as an ‘ish chessed’, one who concerned himself with the welfare of his fellow Jews. He founded and operated a soup kitchen that operated for forty years, literally feeding thousands of persons in need.

Acquaintances of the niftar are quoted telling BeChadrei Chareidim that his great and beloved personality gave him an important and noble status. Fifteen years ago, he ran for the Tel Aviv City Council and served for 10 years on the same list with Degel Hatorah Councilman, Naftali Lubart, revolutionizing religious services in the city.

He established the Mikdashei Seveii Shul (מקדשי שביעי) in Tel Aviv and was privileged to bring 110-year-old Sifrei Torah from Bukhara. He was also a member of the Tel Aviv Chevra Kadisha.

His friendship with former council member Binyamin Babioff, also a member of the Bukharin community, who is now running on the “Ma’aminim” list to the city council, initiated join activities in favor of promoting Yiddishkeit in the public sphere in Tel Aviv. Together they established charitable and welfare projects for the general public in Tel Aviv, and especially for members of the Buchari community.

Benyamin Babioff told BeChadrei Chareidim that, “In made a bikur cholim visit to him and he shook my hand and I felt the warmth and gave me a bracha; wishing me much success and calling on everyone to vote for the Ma’aminim list, which has the election initials gimmel beis (גב).

He is survived by two sons and two daughters. The levaya is to be held on Wednesday evening from the soup kitchen which he established in Tel Aviv to the Holon Cemetery for kvura.
