PHOTOS: Inspectors In Machane Yehuda Nab Shipment Of Strawberries From Gaza

(PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

Ministry of Agriculture inspectors have intercepted an attempt to market 80 cartons of strawberries from Gaza at four vendors in Jerusalem’s Machane Yehuda market. Officials add that since the beginning of the year, 70,000kg of fruits and vegetables from PA (Palestinian Authority) areas, items which may pose a health danger to the public, have been apprehended. One can only wonder how much of these produce items have evaded inspectors and are sold in the shuk.

The 80 cartons of strawberries apprehended in the latest ministry operation, with the cooperation of police, yielded 600kg of illegal strawberries, which inspectors report pose a health threat to the public. The Jerusalem residents involved have been arrested and they will face criminal charges.

The strawberries were confiscated and will be destroyed.

One Response

  1. Why would Israel object to produce from Gaza. It should be subject to the same health rules as any other produce, but there is no reason in Israel not doing business with Gaza. Israel wants Gaza to be economically integrated with Israel, and dependent on Israel for commerce.
