Outgoing IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gadi Eizenkott on Tuesday morning visited the Gaza border area and met with area community leaders for a final time before leaving retiring. During a meeting, the IDF commander revealed that Israel prevented the smuggling of thousands of rockets by Hamas.
Eizenkott stated he hopes the prolonged ceasefire will continue until the barrier wall is complete. At present, he does not believe there is anything to be done in Gaza.
“We foiled the smuggling of 15,000-20,000 rockets” he told area leaders, adding, that regarding Israel permitting tens of millions of dollars to be funneled into Gaza monthly, money from Qatar, he explained this serves Israel’s interests towards sustaining the economic infrastructure in Gaza.
