Surprising Everyone, Degel’s Muntag Announces He Is Taking A Break From Beit Shemesh Political Life

During a Sunday night Beit Shemesh City Council meeting, Councilman (Degel Hatorah) Moshe Muntag announced he is leaving his position on the city council and in the local government.

In his parting words, Muntag praised the efforts of the newly-elected mayor, Dr. Aliza Bloch, stating “Serious work has been done here, and I think some of things here were outside the realm of politics, and were conducted between spiritual officials in a good way and to everyone’s satisfaction.”

“I believe that Degel Hatorah entered the coalition with the goal to assist you mayor in achieving your great goals, to work seriously for the good of the city”.

Muntag that parted from his colleagues, mentioning he merited serving for 15 years on the council in an array of position, having succeeded in improving the city in many areas.

“On the personal level, I also consulted with my rabbonim, my family and members of my home and decided to take a break from my positions in the Beit Shemesh municipality, but not from public life in general.

“I waited for the moment that Degel Hatorah would enter the coalition, that Degel Hatorah will stabilize, according to its true size, and according to what this party is worth and wish my party success,” Montag said.

  1. Is this the same Montag that was demanding kickback for building permits, including shuls?

Or someone else who by unfortunate circumstances has a similar name? Not being snarky, just trying to determine who resigned.
